Objectives

The main objective of this project is to make the playgrounds more dynamic through activities managed by teachers and student volunteers, in order to achieve the inclusion of all students and improve coexistence in the centre. The general objectives of the project were: - To improve the linguistic competence of our teachers and students in foreign languages. - To transform the playground from a recreational area to a space for coexistence, inclusion and outdoor learning. - Encourage pupil autonomy in the organisation and management of activities aimed at improving the management of the school's spaces. - Create a digital magazine with text, images and video.

Background

IES Campanar is a state school for Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, which is located in the Campanar district in the city of Valencia. We currently have a total of 655 students and 67 teachers. This amount of studentsis a large one for a school that was designed for much lower occupancy figures. They come mainly from the Campanar neighbourhood, with a medium socio-cultural and economic level. We have an increasing percentage of pupils of foreign origin, especially from countries such as Russia, Ukraine, China, Pakistan and India. We also have students with different abilities, for whom we have the assistance of professionals such as two counsellors, a PT and a speech therapist teacher. We also have programmes for diversity in the 3rd and 4th years of ESO. Our project was born from the reality observed daily in the breaks, during which, we observe students who do not interact, due to various reasons such as: their difficulty with the language, for their recent incorporation, their poor social skills... This situation shows us that, although it is a non-conflictual school, it has a lot of work to do in the area of coexistence.
