Objectives

Food, and all that it implies, is a key issue today. With regard to our project, "Our food: an act of citizenship", our aim was to achieve, based on the current and real culinary and gastronomic habits of each of the participating countries, a global vision of food, in order to establish comparisons and observe the differences and similarities, and thus make a more general reflection on food and diets and their impact on us and on the environment. We have also looked at the links between food and the natural environment in which it is produced, the role of climate and relief in food production, the origin of food and the effect of globalisation and its socialising effect and as a marker of social distinction. We have also questioned how to become more active in the production and packaging of food, cooking in a simple and healthy way in order to try to change eating habits. Finally, understanding the impact that food production methods and our eating habits have on the environment, analysing labels and packaging and reflecting on sustainable development.

Background

We are a public school of compulsory secondary education and baccalaureate under the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands. Our intention was to work with schools in other countries that teach the same subjects, non-profit organisations that would enrich our main priority, that would share our concerns about the challenges posed by food in the 21st century. This theme has allowed us to address concerns as diverse as health, sustainable development (environmentally friendly agriculture, food waste, packaging issues, etc.), the environment, food production and, of course, gastronomy as a technique and art, as well as a vehicle and foundation of culture. In addition, centres that had programmes or projects related to the subject matter we were trying to address and that could serve as a starting point for the implementation of subsequent projects related to the subject matter we were trying to address. starting point for implementing subsequent projects related to this theme in our centre. For this purpose, we have counted on centres that had an important history of participation in Erasmus+ projects, with the aim of favouring a higher quality, as far as possible, for our project and to learn from them.
