The project emerged from some needs found at school. We appreciate a lack of relationship with the natural environment and excessive use of time in enclosed spaces. It was important to carry out activities to work in the outdoor environment and the idea of creating an outdoor classroom was born. After researching, training needs were detected among teachers: they had difficulties in integrating practices and actions related to environmental education; they showed problems when it came to integrating the SDGs into their teaching plannings. Thus, we set the following goals: - To raise awareness, train and educate the entire educational school community about the importance of sustainable development. - To develop an environmental education program from a comprehensive perspective, with innovative teaching approaches, encouraging the participation of the entire educational community. - To integrate the ecosocial competence and the Sustainable Development Goals into the curricular project of our school. - To prevent school failure and early school leaving by making use of our Environmental Education Program. - To be part of a European school network where good practices exchanges and cooperation are favoured.
Or school, I.E.S Bahía de Algeciras is a four-line Compulsory Secondary Education school that began in the academic year 2000-2001. It has been a bilingual school since 2007/2008. It is located in a neighbourhood in the north of Algeciras. There are two primary schools attached to our school, C.E.I.P San Bernardo and C.E.I.P Virgen del Mar. Nearby we have two high schools where baccalaureate and training cycles are taught. Algeciras is a city located in the Campo de Gibraltar with a population of around 130000 inhabitants. It has 454 students, 43 teachers and 9 non-teaching staff members. In addition to the educational offer it offers, different plans and projects are developed in our school that enrich the teaching-learning process, among which the Eco-School program related to the objectives we want to achieve with this project stands out. The area where our center is located is middle class and people from different cultures coexist. We find the same in our school where we have students aged 12-17 of different nationalities.
