Objectives

Our project was created to achieve an improvement in the attention to student diversity and to offer a more inclusive, equitable education with equal opportunities for all. The two objectives we set were to improve the quality of teaching and learning through the application of new methodologies, and to improve teaching by promoting cultural exchange and the learning of foreign languages. Participation in this project motivates pupils by giving them greater autonomy and teaching them to work collaboratively, improving their linguistic competence by interacting with peers in English. Teachers will learn to use active methodologies to awaken pupils' interest, thus helping to reduce the drop-out rate in our school. The good practices observed in the reference centres will be implemented and will be included in the didactic programmes and in our School Plan. Furthermore, we will learn how to incorporate new digital tools and how to use them in the classroom, as these are the order of the day so we should not lag behind.

Background

Our project is called "Inclusiv@mente aprendiendo por Europa / Inclusively learning through Europe" and was born from the intention of promoting cultural diversity and foreign language learning among our pupils, as well as encouraging inclusion at all levels. IES Baelo Claudia is a public school that offers the four levels of Compulsory Secondary Education and has about 380 pupils and 34 teachers. The socio-economic profile of the students' families is generally an average one, and most of them work in the primary and hotel sector, mainly due to the touristic character of our town. It is for this reason that we insist on transmitting to our pupils the importance of knowing how to get by in at least one foreign language, in addition to their own, and to be tolerant and respectful of other cultures. Achieving this goal will help to increase the chances of integration into the labour market in our municipality too.
