Objectives

The main objective of the project was to raise students' awareness of climate change by addressing some of the goals of the 2030 Agenda through their active participation in combating its effects and increasing awareness of approaches through which each individual can contribute to a sustainable development. The second objective of the project was to teach project participants to work culturally and linguistically through socially diverse groups, overcome cultural barriers, and learn tolerance and a sense of European cooperation. Cooperation is also related to another project objective: the development of communication skills in English and other foreign languages and motivating participants to deepen and expand these skills. Lastly, the project aimed to improve participants' digital skills and expand their knowledge of usage possibilities. Thus, digital tools became a key element for communication, collaboration, content creation, and sharing.

Background

The IES 9 d’OCTUBRE in Carlet (Valencia) is a public secondary education center offering both mandatory education (ESO and FPB) and post-compulsory education (BACCALAUREATE and VOCATIONAL TRAINING), with a total of 595 students. Our center is a complex one where a significant portion of the students come from lower-middle-class areas and neighborhoods, and 20% of the students face severe learning difficulties and lack study habits, putting them at serious risk of social exclusion. Our center is involved in various Erasmus projects. Firstly, we are part of the project KA121-VET-AD772E18 with a consortium from Alicante (FEMPA) for our intermediate-level students. Secondly, we have the Erasmus+ charter (2022-1-ES01-KA131-HED-000062449) for the internships of our advanced-level students. This academic year alone, we have 15 students, both intermediate and advanced, doing their internships abroad. Thirdly, we are working on and will soon reapply for the Erasmus+ Charter (KA120) for ESO and Baccalaureate. Fourthly, our students in ESO and Baccalaureate have also been able to enjoy the Erasmus+ experience thanks to the KA122 project with Germany and the Czech Republic.
