This project was requested with the idea of tackling the shortcomings found in students finishing secondary school. These were the lack of fluency in communication and interaction in English with other people and the equality of participation between boys and girls in certain types of activities where, on occasions, a strong assignment of roles was perceived. Given these shortcomings, two main objectives were set for the project: 1) the promotion of English language learning in a context of linguistic immersion. The aim was for our students to improve their ability to communicate in English, both in active listening and oral production, and to be able to function more or less independently in an English-speaking environment by the end of secondary school. 2) the creation of a playful environment where boys and girls could work in an equitable way, avoiding the assignment of pre-established roles. That our students learn to live in society, in an egalitarian way, to give the best of themselves and to avoid falling into the role assignments that are often imposed in our society.
Colegio Academia Júcar, S.COOP V. (XÚQUER) is a workers' cooperative located in Alzira (Valencia) founded in 1980, although its origins date back to the middle of the 20th century. It has 49 workers and 509 students (from 6 to 20 years old). It is a state-subsidised centre which teaches Childhood Education, Primary and Secondary Education and Vocational Training at intermediate and higher levels. The students come mainly from the same town but it also takes in pupils from the surrounding area. Their socio-economic profile is medium-high, although there are cases with particular needs derived from their family or social situation, to whom the centre pays special attention so that they can achieve the objectives of the stage they are studying. The centre is part of the Florida Education Group with which it shares the same vision and whose main objective is to train students and prepare them for their correct professional and personal integration into society (currently in the merger phase by absorption by Florida Centre de Formació, CV). XÚQUER has some experience in KA101 projects (teacher mobility), but this has been its first KA122 mobility project with students.
