IES Venancio Blanco is a public school located in the northern area of Salamanca which provides compulsory and post-compulsory secondary education and higher vocational training studies (administration and development of computer systems, administration and finance studies and business management), with around 1,300 students currently enrolled and an academic staff of 116 teachers. The school is particularly relevant in terms of pedagogical innovation and quality systems for its approach to ICT in education, as it has been certified as level 5 (out of 5) of ICT excellence by the Junta de Castilla y León. It is also one of the 4 pilot schools in the region participating in a ‘service learning’ programme, which aims to integrate community service with education. In this framework, the school has developed a pilot project on immigration in close collaboration with local associations.
