Objectives

This school had had previous experience in internationalisation, but unfortunately this initiative had been dormant for years. Talking about faculty and management, there was no doubt that internationalisation was an area of improvement that the school needed to address as soon as possible. As a result, and following individual initiatives, a common interest was awakened until the "Erasmus Group" was formed. Talk about internationalisation is too ambiguous, so the three main objectives we set were as follows: Objective 1: To contact and create a series of contacts with centres in the field of vocational training in order to work in a network, both to improve the linguistic competence of teachers, as well as to establish different ways of collaboration. Objective 2: To share and compare strategies and resources to improve interaction between educational centres and the business world. This is a challenge that the new Vocational Education and Training Law is challenging us to tackle head on. Objective 3: To promote the entrepreneurial spirit of students. A competence that will undoubtedly be useful in the job profiles demanded in the immediate future in the European context.

Background

This project belongs to the IES Fernández-Vallín in Gijón. It is a centre that offers studies at the secondary and high school stages and a wide range of Vocational Training studies, thanks to the work of a teaching staff of around 130 teachers and around 20 members of the administration and services staff. The number of students is around a thousand, half of whom study vocational training and the other half study secondary and high school. Talking about Asturias, it is one of the largest centres and its history and tradition are directly linked to the field of vocational training. It is precisely in this sector where is aimed this project. We have the professional families of electricity and electronics, transport and maintenance of vehicles and building and civil works. The offer includes basic vocational training, intermediate and advanced vocational training and the recent specialisation courses. It is offered in morning and afternoon shifts. From the context it is worth highlighting the multicultural character and the wide diversity of our students, which not only means that they come from different nationalities, but also that their interests, motivations and knowledge are very diverse.
