Sant Josep Obrer is a publicly funded school in Palma, located in a neighborhood where families with low incomes and a high percentage of immigrants reside. Among our students, a significant number come from families facing educational challenges, geographical, economic, and social obstacles, as well as cultural differences. This situation has been exacerbated by the pandemic, which has highlighted the digital divide. Sant Josep Obrer is committed to providing a holistic education for students, focusing on Christian humanism. An essential pillar of our education is internationalization, with an emphasis on learning about other cultures and languages. In the context of vocational education, the main goal of participating in Erasmus programs is to enrich students personally and improve their employability prospects, helping them enter the labor market with better salaries. Indirectly, this also helps reduce dropout rates and encourages students to improve their academic performance as they aspire to obtain these scholarships. STUDENT MOBILITIES: We have carried out 5 student mobilities, 4 of which correspond to disadvantaged backgrounds. We have achieved 80% integration and commitment to equity and inclusion for our most disadvantaged students, compared to 0% in the 2022 project and 50% in the 2019 project (both overlapped in time). Most of these students access higher education with scholarships from the Ministry of Education. For this reason, we allocate the staff budget to enable these internships abroad. The students are awarded 22 ECTS credits as these internships are part of the curriculum for their higher education courses as established by the degree. It is worth highlighting that in 2023, one student secured a job at the company where they did their internship in Denmark (and is still working there), and in 2024, a student in Germany has been offered a job at the company where they completed their mobility. These are two success stories. The results of these mobilities have allowed students not only to acquire language skills and competencies specific to their field of study but also to develop civic, social, and cultural adaptation skills, conflict resolution abilities, teamwork, analytical thinking, and tolerance towards other cultures. In total, the 5 mobilities have met the quality objectives regarding the content of the learning agreements, and all negotiation processes with the companies have been successful. The school has monitored the students, either virtually or otherwise. The reports received from the companies where the students completed their FCT internships have been very satisfactory, and the students have completed their training with these internships, recognized in their degree with the corresponding 22 ECTS credits. Of the 5 student mobilities, all students are currently employed. STAFF MOBILITY: The profile is of a teacher seeking to learn about other methodologies/cultures/projects, etc., and to approach countries leading in education. The staff not only enrich themselves through this training but also share the knowledge with their colleagues, who apply it to enhance the educational activity. We reallocated the staff mobility budget to students, as the inclusion grant increased, which automatically reduced the number of students who could participate without exceeding the budget. HOSTING: For the 22-23 academic year, we hosted 8 staff members: 1 from Thailand, 3 from Denmark, 2 from Finland, and two business professionals from Denmark (the hosting company of one of our students), as well as 5 students. For the 23-24 academic year, we hosted 8 staff members: 1 from Italy, 2 from the Netherlands, 1 from Finland, 1 from Denmark, 3 from France, and 10 students, plus 2 teachers from the UK. Sant Josep Obrer has benefited from attracting partner schools from countries that rank among the top in education. Our network of vocational schools has expanded and consolidated, allowing us to achieve mobilities with greater impact on the educational community and participants, while also enhancing the status of vocational education and reaching European standards. We are the first school in Spain to host a VET Skill Competition in 2022 (featured in the SEPIE newsletter), in partnership with schools from Italy and the Netherlands. We also share contacts to encourage other educational stages to participate in Erasmus programs, including a KA2 project in secondary education and a Jean Monnet project in high school. We highlight our agreements with two universities in the UK and Ireland and the experience of three students who had 100% of their administration course validated. Sant Josep Obrer aims to elevate vocational education to meet European standards by offering international experiences to both teachers and students, enhancing their training and employability. Our commitment to internationalization seeks to make us a benchmark within the educational community.
