Objectives

Our objective with this project was to launch the Erasmus+ project of Higher Education at IES La Merced. Until now we had always worked within a consortium to move students, however, we considered that it was time to launch our own project, since, on the one hand, we now have the accredited experience in Erasmus+ FP and on the other hand, working within the consortium reduces the impact and coherence of the results of the mobilities for our institution. In addition, working within the consortium prevented us from adapting to the needs of our students, for example by making the periods and duration of the mobilities inflexible. We can therefore say that our objectives with this first project were to design and implement the first physical mobilities for internships in companies for students from IES La Merced in the field of Higher Education and thus contribute to the achievement of the internationalization plan of our center. Since we work in a vocational training centre, even though we are in higher education, the types of mobility organised are for internships in companies in order to recognise (validate) this training once the training stay has finished, as the corresponding training in work centres, which is mandatory for our students. On the other hand, since we work in a vocational training centre, no foreign students were received in our institution, although we did collaborate with a similar centre (Cuno I in Hagen, Germany) to organise their mobilities in Valladolid, our city, as well as to support their students and invite them to activities in our centre for language exchange. The collaboration with the German centre consisted of mutual support for the search for companies and accommodation for students from both institutions. This collaboration began three courses ago, but we had only worked in the field of Vocational Training, and wirh this Project, we extended it to Higher Education (HE). As this was the first Erasmus+ Higher Education project we organised, we only requested two outgoing student mobilities and none for teaching staff. This decision was made in order to be able to organise quality activities and set realistic and achievable objectives. The main line of our institution's Internationalisation Plan is to promote environmental sustainability, which in our case is achieved by improving students' skills to perform the jobs required by the ecological transition and the change towards a sustainable industry related to their professional profile. To this end, we reflect work on skills related to this area in the training programmes and one of the companies where our student trained is a renewable energy cooperative. Furthermore, as a vocational training centre, our aim is always to facilitate the personal development of students and improve their preparation for their integration into the labour market, reinforcing their technical skills and transversal abilities, so the companies chosen for the mobilities responded to the professional profile and preferences of the selected students. Finally, with the Erasmus Higher Education project we also seek to find synergies with other projects and activities carried out within the centre, always within the guidelines of the ECHE Charter. To do so, we worked jointly with the centre's other Erasmus+ projects and with the Environmental Action Plan, as well as with the Guidance Department and the Language Department.
