Objectives

Our main goal is to continue with the success of our internationalization programmes that our school has been developing for some time now. This has helped open the barriers to our students, in order that they can improve their professional skills, their personal development and their employability. Since the opening of our school in the mid eighties, IES Calvià has become a school of reference regarding vocational training. We currently offer four Advanced-level Vocational Training in different streams: Administration and Finance, Marketing and Advertising, Tourism Accommodation Management and Kitchen Management. Furthermore, we also offer different streams of Intermediate-level vocational Training, Basic-level Vocational Training as well as Professional Certification. Our school is located in the town of Calvià. Its demographic population is composed of Majorcans, Spanish immigrants from the peninsula and foreigners, who represent around 30% of the population in the town, and account for 20% of our student body. The town is dedicated almost entirely to tourism, hence the importance of languages and internationalization for the professional future of our students. As from the academic year 2004/2005, the school has had an International Coordinator (Leonardo or Erasmus) and as from the year 2014 we have our own project, which has been growing every year in quantity and quality. We also expanded the levels and sectors of training in which we have Erasmus projects. We started with the intermediate levels of vocational training, expanding afterwards to Advanced-level projects and later to school projects for secondary education (ESO and Baccalaureate). The number of staff involved in the project has also been growing. The Erasmus coordinator is supported by the Erasmus Commission, which is composed of two heads of study and the Erasmus coordinators of projects HED, VET and SCH. The involvement of the school management team is essential for the development and growth of the Erasmus project. We continue to maintain the number of participants. Even though the number of participants in the Erasmus project of the Intermediate-level fluctuates depending on the year, in the Advanced-level we always maintain a large number of participants —in fact, we maintain two simultaneous projects in motion to cover all of our needs. We continue to improve the selection of students and teachers. We send the best candidates, opening opportunities to everyone and focusing on the inclusion of the most unprivileged students at all levels of the vocational training courses we provide. The main goal of our proposal is to offer students the possibility of carrying out a module of “Training in working places” abroad, in a foreign language, thus adding an important personal experience which might be essential for their future. Another important goal we have is to be able to offer the teaching staff an opportunity to become familiar with new teaching and work organization methodologies used in other countries and educational systems, in order to be able to apply them at our school. This also fosters the sense of European citizenship in the beneficiaries of the program, while they also transmit this idea to the rest of the educational community. Therefore, the main actions to which the funds are allocated are students’ mobility for internships in foreign companies, as well as teachers’ mobility to learn about facilities, curricula or teaching methodologies used in other countries, and/or to look for possible new students' mobilities.
