The Erasmus+ program is one of the strategic points in the internationalization of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). The Erasmus+ 2022 Project aimed to consolidate the international strategy defined by the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization, with the goal of strengthening the university’s global presence and solidifying its network of partner universities. One of the fundamental purposes was to maximize the quality of Erasmus mobilities, both for students and staff, focusing on a geographical and functional diversification of destinations. The full execution of the available funding, reaching 100%, demonstrated UC3M's commitment to expanding internationalization, also reflecting significant progress compared to previous projects. This maximum execution allowed the largest possible number of students and staff to access Erasmus grants, providing increasing opportunities for more people to benefit from these mobilities. The efficient management of resources not only increased participation but also positioned UC3M as an institution that prioritizes international mobility for its academic community. One of the main objectives was to increase mobility to non-associated Erasmus+ countries, such as post-Brexit United Kingdom. This approach was integrated into the international dimension of Erasmus, allowing 95 people, including students and staff, to carry out their mobilities in this country. The inclusion of destinations outside the Erasmus program-associated countries represented a new milestone for UC3M, strengthening our network of international partners in strategic areas and expanding training and collaboration opportunities for participants. Furthermore, the project prioritized social inclusion, aligning with the principles of the ECHE Charter, by providing equal and equitable access to mobility. As part of this, an extraordinary call for Erasmus grants for Ukrainian refugee students was launched, facilitating the reception of 23 students who arrived at UC3M following the start of the conflict in their country in 2022. The project also increased grants for disadvantaged groups, benefiting numerous students, including those with recognized disabilities. Another key objective was the advancement of the digitalization of mobility processes, the European Student Card Initiative and the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) project. A major achievement was the implementation of the digital management of Online Learning Agreements (OLAs), where all incoming staff OLAs were accepted, validated, and signed through the EWP-Dashboard, representing a significant milestone in the modernization and streamlining of mobility processes. Additionally, the 2022 Project focused on innovation in mobility formats, with an emphasis on Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). The first BIP in UC3M's history was organized in collaboration with three other European universities from the YUFE alliance, allowing students to benefit from a short hybrid learning experience. Furthermore, UC3M participated in four additional BIPs, each with two more European universities, thus promoting international academic cooperation. The flexible approach has continued with the Erasmus+ mobility calls for Internships, Teaching and Training Staff, as well as short-term mobilities through the Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). These calls remain open throughout the academic year, allowing participants to submit applications at any time. This ongoing model addresses the need to offer greater flexibility compared to calls with a single application period, as was the case for Teaching and Training Staff mobilities in previous years. The goal of this strategy is to ensure that interested participants can access mobilities and benefit from Erasmus+ grants whenever an opportunity or need arises, significantly enhancing participation options and adaptability. Finally, another major objective of the project was to strengthen UC3M’s participation in excellence networks such as YERUN and YUFE. Through these alliances, the aim was not only to enhance educational quality but also to stabilize the university’s position in international rankings and foster collaboration in research, teaching, and university management. The Erasmus+ 2022 Project aimed to consolidate UC3M's leadership in the field of internationalization, fully executing the available Erasmus funding, expanding mobility opportunities, promoting inclusion, and modernizing processes, all in line with the fundamental principles of the ECHE Charter.
