Objectives

The Erasmus+ project implemented at our higher vocational education center aimed to promote both the professional and personal development of students, while also strengthening the international profile of our institution. We faced the challenge of ensuring that all students could access companies to complete their internships, especially in fields such as Pathological Anatomy, Biomedical Laboratory, Medical Imaging, and Health Documentation, where the availability of local placements is limited. The internationalization of our training activities was key to expanding internship opportunities for students in various European countries such as Germany, Romania, Italy, and the Netherlands, within the framework of the "Workplace Training" module. During the project, 8 students completed most or all of their internships in these countries. This project was not only designed for the benefit of the participating students but also aimed to improve the educational quality and facilitate labor market integration through contact with international companies. Participation in diverse professional environments allowed students to learn new methodologies, compare different healthcare systems, and develop both technical and transversal skills. Working in an international context strengthened their adaptability, language skills, and problem-solving abilities in unfamiliar environments, thus enhancing their professional confidence and intercultural skills. A key aspect of the project was its inclusive approach. Of the 8 participating students, 5 were considered to have "fewer opportunities" due to economic barriers, coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and receiving study grants. This project allowed these students to access the same international opportunities as their peers, ensuring equity within the Erasmus+ program. Additionally, all students received excellent qualifications for their internships, reflecting their high performance in the workplace. As part of our institutional strategy, inclusion and equity are fundamental aspects. By ensuring that students with fewer opportunities could access these international experiences, we not only promoted a fairer education system but also provided these students with a significant advantage for their professional future, expanding their networks and increasing their employability in an increasingly globalized job market. In addition to student mobility, the project included a job-shadowing experience for a teacher from the healthcare field, who is also the Head of Vocational Studies. This stay took place at Roc Friese Poort, a recognized educational institution in the Netherlands. During her stay, the teacher was able to observe and exchange good educational practices and teaching methodologies that can now be implemented to improve our curriculum. This collaboration not only strengthened the competencies of our teaching staff but also laid the foundation for future international cooperation that will contribute to the continued development of our institution. The impact of the project was significant both for the students and for the organization. The students, in addition to improving their technical skills, developed soft skills such as adaptability and teamwork in multicultural environments, which are highly valued in today’s job market. Additionally, our educational center has strengthened its international collaboration network, which will allow us to continue participating in future European projects, thus continuously improving our educational offerings. In summary, this Erasmus+ project has been a transformative experience that not only facilitated the professional and personal development of students but also contributed to the internationalization of our institution. Through this project, we have successfully promoted inclusion, equity, and international cooperation, reinforcing our ability to provide comprehensive and high-quality training that prepares our students for a future that is increasingly interconnected and demanding.
