By implementing this project we wanted to raise awareness and introduce better habits in our schools, in treating and saving water as the first and most important steps to solve the growing freshwater problems. We plan to improve the pedagogical approaches of our teachers to teach students to be aware of the importance of freshwater through various tools. Objective 1: To increase the awareness of participants, students and families, about freshwater and learn how educators play a vital role in appreciating ecology. These outcomes, which would sensitize participants about water sources, ecology, and sustainability, would help us achieve the following objectives in the project. Objective 2: To develop materials and curricula to raise water awareness in students. Participants would be able to observe and analyze effective school materials used in awareness applications. Objective 3: To learn from out-of-class activities, projects, and school activities to teach about freshwater awareness. Participants would observe how field trips are used to draw students' attention to ecology, biodiversity, and freshwater sources. Objective 4: Acquire gamification skills for water literacy for students of different ages.
The fight for a sustainable world has been important to us since the beginning of this project. We think that as teachers we must be the first to adapt to changes and improve our perspectives in supporting sustainability, caring for our planet and saving water as a natural resource necessary for life. This is the message we wanted to spread to our students and to each of the educational communities. We discovered that on the island of Tenerife, where our Spanish partner resides, freshwater resources are scarce and threatened by both overuse and pollution. Our partner from Portugal is among the fourty four countries that have exhausted at least 40% of their water reserves and the Italian partner 26%. The same is true in Turkey. Putting all this data together, we decided to work together in the four schools to analyze the importance of water in our cities and provide a response to the proper use of this important resource. So we developed this work because we thought that our project would contribute to the structuring and popularity of water education in our countries.
