Background

Under the Europe 2020 Strategy, education has been a key priority. According to the Council Resolution on a strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training (2021-2030), early school leaving (ESL) is a significant challenge in Europe, particularly affecting vulnerable young people and exacerbating problems such as the education gap, unemployment and social exclusion. As reported by Eurostat, ESL rate in 2020 was 16% and 13.1% in Italy, and the rates in the Valencian Community and in Palermo, where the project will focus, 15.5% and 20.4% respectively. The project addresses critical problems such as repetition, absenteeism and school segregation, which disproportionately affect disadvantaged youth. We seek to avoid the negative impact of school dropout through the study and generation of inclusive and motivating educational practices. The creation of spaces for reflection and work by the educational community as a whole, the participation of teachers and networking are essential to implement these changes and improve the outlook for vulnerable students.
