The objectives we proposed for this project were the following: OB1: To provide training in digital competences and innovative pedagogies. OB2: To bring the university closer to society. OB3: To foster sustainable development in higher education. OB4: To promote individual and organizational transformation and change, leading to improvements, new approaches, and institutional change.
The GIRLS project was presented as a proposal by the partners to promote several important aspects in Europe, such as inclusion and diversity, equality, digital transformation, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As detailed in the proposal, we designed the project “GIRLS – Generation for Innovation, Resilience, Leadership, and Sustainability: Let the Game Begin!” as a game, since we started from the idea that the best way to learn is “by doing,” in this case “by playing.” Nowadays, many teachers use innovative active methodologies in their classes to motivate and engage students in their own learning. However, this is not usually the case in higher education, where the traditional system of lectures still prevails. In the GIRLS project, we promoted the use of active methodologies in higher education among teachers.
