Background

We applied to address the urgent need to protect student data in an increasingly digital education system. As schools adopt cloud-based technologies, we saw the necessity to raise awareness and provide guidance on data fragility, privacy, and security, especially in primary and secondary education. We aimed to raise awareness, share good practices, and develop tools to improve data literacy, privacy, and secure data management in schools. We addressed the need to understand and manage the risks of using cloud-based EdTech, including privacy breaches, data misuse, and loss of control over student data by: raising awareness of data fragility among all educational stakeholders; equipping schools with tools to manage student data responsibly; enhancing digital and data literacy of teachers and school leaders; promoting safe, ethical, and legal data practices; supporting GDPR compliance.
