Objectives

The main objectives of this project were: ‑To improve the key competences of teachers, other professionals and actors in secondary education to promote gender equity with a special focus on the eradication of gender-based violence; ‑To exchange experiences, good practices and methodologies between organisations from different European countries, in order to educate in gender equity at school; ‑To design an eBook with practical educational tools for teachers and other actors in the educational community to develop educational activities for raising awareness on gender issues; ‑To build a space for debate and reflection among students, teachers and other professionals in the field of school education on gender-based violence through the writing of micro-stories; ‑To create a network of organizations, active in the field of school education, that work for gender equity and the eradication of gender-based violence through the development of literacy competence, critical thinking and creativity.

Background

This project was applied to work on the eradication of gender-based violence and to promote gender equity in education. Despite legislative and social advances, significant challenges remain and gender-based violence continues to be one of the most widespread human rights violations, affecting women of all ages and backgrounds. Gender-based violence, especially physical violence, remains one of the clearest and most extreme manifestations, but it is not the only one, as there are more subtle forms that perpetuate inequalities and unequal power relations between men and women. Professionals working with adolescents and young people have a crucial role to play in promoting a fairer and more equitable model. Therefore, it is necessary to have tools and methodologies to work on these issues more effectively, allowing us to move from the simple transmission of knowledge to reflection and action, developing students' empathy and creating spaces for critical analysis, debate, understanding and experimentation.
