Objectives

The main objective of the project has been to map skills needs and training pathways across different countries, providing innovative tools to stakeholders of the sector and thus overcoming skills gap between traditional occupations and new occupations for industrialised construction (offsite). Specific objectives are: - To identify industrialised systems and key professional skills aligned with circular economy and energy efficiency principles, boosting job opportunities. - To evaluate the training needs to provide training paths to match current profiles - To study and analysis of national training paths based on “new skills” and national VET offers to be able adapted to more and more flexible training needs in construction 4.0. - To develop innovative tools and methodologies for reinforcing the VET contribution to reduce the impact of the construction industry in environmental issues - To encourage the construction industry attractiveness to bring youngest and women and face the progressive ageing of workforce, reskilling to workers through VET

Background

The construction sector is undergoing major transformations due to climate change, digitalisation, and the transition to a greener economy. These shifts create both challenges and opportunities, requiring workers to develop new skills to meet industry demands. However, there is a gap between traditional construction occupations and the emerging skills needed for industrialised, sustainable, and digital construction The sector faces the shortage of skilled workers (as millions retire in the coming years) and the need for upskilling and reskilling to comply with EU policies like the EU Green Deal and Construction 4.0 By aligning with the Pact for Skills in Construction, training providers and companies need to work together to facilitate the up- and reskilling and to make the green transition. As stated in the Porto Declaration (May’21), education and skills must be central to European policy, requiring systems to adapt for new jobs. Construction 4.0 is at forefront of the innovation in the construction sector and this technological change means that new skills and new jobs emerge quickly. That is why skill anticipation is key for adequate provision at VET systems, reconfiguring the links between industry and VET towards innovation.
