Objectives

The objectives, linked to the priorities, were: -Update occupational requirements for roofers with current needs & shortages in green, digital and safety skills. This involved a comprehensive analysis of the evolving roofing industry to identify crucial competencies required in actual practices. -Develop a novel curriculum and tailored training content for VET on green roof installation/maintenance techniques, ICT tools and safety. This curriculum was designed to bridge the gap between traditional roofing skills and emerging technologies and sustainable practices. -Introduce flexible training delivery methods & open-access pedagogical resources to support self-paced upskilling, and improve organisational learning. This included the development of e-learning modules, an interactive game, and practical hands-on training sessions. -Support VET providers to integrate project materials and adjust their WBL & VET offerings to new skills needs to ensure that vocational education institutions could effectively implement the new curriculum and training methods. -Validate and incorporate updated occupational requirements into competence frameworks and certification schemes, collaborating with industry stakeholders.

Background

The roofing industry faced labor shortages and skill gaps between VET and workplace needs. ROTES addresses these challenges through three key pillars: 1. Labor Market Adaptation: Enhanced vocational training for roofers, focusing on green and digital skills. Developed a work-based learning curriculum covering green roof systems, digital tools, and safety standards. 2. Environmental Transformation: Developed a skills strategy for sustainable practices, increasing awareness, and providing training resources on new roofing techniques, promoting sustainable roof systems and materials. ROTES contributed to the roofing industry's green transformation to meet Green Deal targets and support the EU's focus on energy-efficient buildings. 3. Digital Innovation: ROTES integrated digital skills into VET and WBL programs, ensuring workers can use new technologies like design software and drones. This initiative aimed to leverage digitalization's potential in the roofing sector, promising increased efficiency, better resource management, and reduced environmental impact. By addressing these needs, ROTES has supported sector adaptation, promoted sustainability, and enhanced industry resilience.
