Objectives

"Reclaiming our Sea, Reclaiming our Planet" was an Erasmus+ project with the aim of addressing the environmental challenges facing the seas and oceans, with a specific focus on raising awareness and empowering young people in Spain, Czech Republic and Italy to be agents of change in protecting the marine environment. The project sought to raise awareness among young people about the importance of individual responsibility in consumption and how their daily choices could significantly affect the environment, especially in the seas and oceans. The relevance of adopting sustainable and environmentally friendly practices to preserve marine biodiversity and marine ecosystems was highlighted. The young people were also made aware of the direct impact of their actions on specific ecosystems, focusing on the coast of the city of Valencia and the Mediterranean Sea. Through this approach, it showed how plastic pollution, overexploitation of resources and inadequate tourism management had caused significant damage to these important marine ecosystems. The project encouraged individual and collective action to prevent environmental degradation of the seas and coasts, empowering young people to be leaders and promoters of change in their communities. They were empowered to take an active role in protecting the environment, promoting sustainable practices and participating in local environmental initiatives. The Erasmus+ platform allowed young people from different countries to share their experiences and approaches to environmental protection, enriching their understanding and perspective on the importance of acting together for the conservation of seas and oceans. In line with the priorities of the European Union and the Spanish National Agency, the project emphasised the development of skills and competences related to environmental care, lifelong learning and environmental awareness. It sought to inspire young people to become environmental leaders and citizens committed to protecting the planet. "Rescuing our Sea, Reclaiming our Planet" was guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 6 on clean water and sanitation, SDG 13 on Climate Action and SDG 14 on Underwater Life. These goals provided a clear direction for addressing environmental issues related to the seas and oceans, promoting sustainable practices and increased environmental awareness among the young participants. Through this project, it aimed to create a generation committed to protecting our planet and conserving our valuable marine resources for future generations.
