Objectives

The objectives of the project - The Power of FILANDON - were clearly linked to the selected priorities, given that by achieving the objectives we create opportunities for learning, inclusion and increased quality, innovation and recognition of youth work. Furthermore, through the actions we develop we will promote multilingualism and diversity, common values, civic engagement and active participation, especially of children, adolescents and youth. GENERAL OBJECTIVES - To implement actions at local and European level to promote reading as a key educational tool for learning, inclusion and social transformation. - To awaken, increase and consolidate interest in reading as an element of personal enjoyment with the aim of preventing situations of social exclusion and school failure. - To promote linguistic diversity and multilingualism in the European Union. - To offer training opportunities for youth workers in the field of reading promotion.

Background

We requested this project - The Power of FILANDON - because we wanted to highlight the value of reading as a tool for lifelong learning, for social inclusion and as an educational tool that helps to prevent early school leaving and school failure. We wanted to set up this project to highlight the importance of reading and of educational actions to encourage reading in non-formal settings, outside the school, which contribute to the comprehensive education of children, adolescents and young people. We detect the need to create spaces to empower children and young people in the promotion of reading as a tool for inclusion and social transformation and to create learning spaces to improve the skills of workers in the field of youth. The early school leaving figures in the European Union are worrying and that is why it was necessary at European level to create educational strategies that help to combat early school failure and early school leaving. In this sense, there are many studies that show that children, adolescents and young people who read more from an early age have a lower risk of ‘school failure’.
