As an accredited European school we closely follow the latest developments in the European school system, in its curriculum and it's practices. Lately there has been many changes which obviously affect our ways of working and require magnitude of internal evaluation, planning and collaboration, so that these practices are incorporated into the daily life of the school and into daily routines. To pinpoint the changes we specially seek bolstering with this project: a)Digital strategy and teacher competences. The syllabus in several subjects has been revised and teachers are facing new challenges in adapting new concepts and teaching methods especially in digital teaching. E.g. new calculators and books in mathematics, new software and equipment for ICT and music, electronic material instead of books. To further harmonise the ways of teaching, working face to face with colleagues more advanced in these areas is needed in addition to online meetings. b) Quality assurance program launched 2020 for all accredited European schools to harmonize external auditing practices and increase understanding of external evaluation indicators at the level of individual schools. The program boosters simultaneously development of the ES curriculum.
European school of Helsinki is an accredited European school and part of the AESN (Accredited European schools network). We favor to cooperate inside the network, but it is equally important to get new inspirations from other schools. Some participants are cooperating with schools outside our network. The European School of Helsinki offers European school education from pre-school to upper secondary school. The school’s academic program is divided into a two-year preschool, a five-year primary cycle, and a seven-year secondary cycle. The school's curriculum is unique and the institution is the only accredited European school in Finland. The backbone of the curriculum is a demanding language program that aims at the strong bilingualism of graduating students and encourages them to study other European languages as well. The content of the curriculum is also of a high standard in mathematics, economics and sciences. Unlike the national system, the EB Diploma may also include an examination in music and art.
