Objectives

One of the strategic goals of Centria University of Applied Sciences is to invest in internationalisation and build intercultural competence among students and staff. Participation in the Erasmus+ programme has significantly supported this objective. As Centria’s primary mobility programme, Erasmus+ provides students with opportunities to gain international experience, improve language and communication skills, and gain fresh perspectives related to their fields of study through exchanges and internships at partner universities. Additionally, the programme offers our teachers and other staff members opportunities to gain international teaching experience, expand their professional networks, and deepen cooperation with colleagues from partner universities. Conversely, incoming exchange students and staff from partner universities have had the chance to familiarise themselves with the Finnish higher education system and adapt to a culture that may be quite different from their own. These incoming students and staff have facilitated internationalisation at home for those unable to participate in mobility periods themselves, which is extremely valuable as not all of our students can go on exchange. In an increasingly international world, it is vital that students and staff familiarise themselves with different cultures and languages and learn how to operate in an international environment. The Erasmus+ programme is the main enabler of this, covering both the agreements and the funding of mobilities. Without the Erasmus+ programme and the funding opportunities it provides us, we would not be able to send our students for mobility periods on this scale. Our objective is to send as many students and staff members as possible on mobility periods. We aim to particularly increase the number of outgoing students and aspire to reach the pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels. Erasmus+ allows us to collaborate with our partner universities in various ways. Centria’s RDI teams work on around 100 projects each year. We actively seek new international project opportunities within our Erasmus+ partner network. We are already involved in several projects that are funded by the European Union. These collaborations offer students and staff international experiences in fields such as digitalisation, production technology, chemistry, bioeconomy, entrepreneurship, and well-being. Our RDI activities have significant regional impact. Participating in international projects provides new insights and development opportunities for our degree programmes, as well as for companies and businesses locally, nationally and internationally.
