We had three objectives for our project. 1.Equal opportunities. Through our international work we want to offer international possibilities for young people with fewer opportunities in our region so that they would have equal possibilities for international experiences as young people who for instance are studying. Piispala's location is in the rural part of Northern Central Finland in Kannonkoski. Closest bigger town is Jyväskylä c. 100 km away. The municipalities nearby Piispala have inhabitants from 1 000 to 10 000. The young people face geographical obstacles and youth workers lack resources. All though there is good support for youth workers through youth work coordination, that does not offer support for international youth work. Through our international activities, Piispala offers possibilities that the youth workers and young people wouldn't necessary have access to. Many young people, especially those under 16 year old do not have much experience of different cultures or haven't met many people from different countries. Immigrants do not often stay in the small villages, since they prefer bigger town where they usually have more countrymen and friends (and even opportunities). 2.Promote sustainability as a value. We want support the promotion of sustainable development and increase the awareness of the topic as well as teach young people and youth workers to find new ways to live more sustainable lives. Young people are very worried about the state of the planet. They worry about the future. Piispala shares this concern and wants to state that to the young people as well. We want to offer the young people a change to make a change, have influence and learn more about the topic. Sustainability and responsibility are on everyone's lips right now, but there is also a lot of green washing and it is important that we offer the young people the chance to learn more and to experience that in other countries young people feel the same. At the same time we want to show, why it is still important to travel and maintain international mobilities and why the impact they have is important and meaningful. In the long run, not traveling will surely cut down emissions and your carbon footprint, but if young people stop traveling might lead to far worse things. 3. Increasing the conspicuousness of Piispala's international youth work. We want to increase the awareness of international youth work and the positive impact it and international experiences have. Of course we also want to show to decision makers that international youth work is as important as 'normal youth work' and it should be a part of the municipalities regular youth work activities. Piispala has worked hard to increase the awareness of our international youth work in our area and in general the awareness of international youth work and the impacts it has. We had succeeded in many ways, yet Covid came and all interest faded. Much more work and time is needed and there are many municipalities in our area. The network needs to be updated and new contacts need to be searched. There is a lot of turnover with the youth workers and more efforts need to be put in order to meet them and share information about the international youth work.
