Objectives

The aim of the Erasmus+ accreditation of Nuorten Ystävät is to enable international activities to young people with fewer opportunities. This project implemented this objective through a youth exchange with young people with special needs and the implementation of a study-visit to Estonian organisations working with young people with special needs The aim of the Youth Exchange was to enable young people from Finland, Italy and North Macedonia to experience things that they had not experienced in the past and to participate in activities involving young people from other countries under their own conditions. The theme of youth exchanges was Nature and Friendship and it illustrates young people’s hopes that, when entering Finland, they will not only want to discover the Finnish nature, but also to meet new friends in Finland. The programme highlighted a range of skills related to cooperation, proximity to nature and the fact that everyone has rights and opportunities to participate, even if it is not always supported by the surrounding society. Of course, the aim of youth exchanges was also to involve people who have had difficulties in participating in international activities. Indeed, many of the young participants were those who had not previously travelled, did not take part in such youth exchanges or, more generally, travelled outside their own country. The Youth Workers Mobility project aimed to find new ways to engage with young people with fewer opportunities and with young people with special needs. The participants came from different parts of the Nuorten Ystävät association, with the aim of ensuring the widest possible dissemination of information about the project. Members of the Board of the Nuorten Ystävät were also involved, giving the management of the organisation an insight into the new opportunities for the development of Nuorten Ystävät activities. In particular, the project focused on cultural well-being, i.e. how and how culture can work with young people who have faced different challenges in their lives. This led to the selection of sites where the use of culture as part of engagement with young people was particularly important.
