The aim of the project was to facilitate student exchanges from Kenyan partner Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (herafter MMUST) to Oulu University of Applied Sciences (hereafter Oamk) and reciprocal teacher and staff exchanges. There has previously been outgoing student and teacher mobility from Oamk to MMUST, but to make the exchanges reciprocal we had to acquire outside funding. The aim of the student mobilities was to increase our transcultural understanding, learn to interact with different cultures and, in addition, for working life in the area to learn to work with people from different cultures through the practical training during the exchanges. The aim of the teacher/staff mobilities was to support professional development and knowledge transfer. The overall aim of the project was also to strengthen co-operation between Oamk and MMUST and to connect to our common interest to support innovation in our respective countries. The project further sought to enhance the international compatibility and competitiveness of higher education in Finland and Kenya by combining the existing skills at the two universities along with their health facilities to achieve the dynamic global needs. x
