Global warming is a threat to our country but also to the whole world. France’s decision to revive nuclear reactors and invest in small modular nuclear reactors to "guarantee energy independence" and "electricity supply" is a reality. Our mission, as teachers and citizens, is to educate our students and show how it can be beneficial or harmful. By working with our partners, they were able to compare their energy-saving and waste behaviours to others and work together to implement good ideas in their own schools and ensure behaviours change. As eco-delegates, they worked within the school community to change habits, and thus promote eco-citizenship. In addition, we wanted to improve their level of English by making them communicate with their partners, first on social networks, then face to face during mobilities by organizing "icebreaker" activities and collaborative work. We also wanted them to get used to using ICT tools. That is the reason why they visited key places for sustainability in each partner country : Autostadt Wolfsburg in Germany, a recycling plant in Greece, SIMAR in Portugal, Copernicus Science Centre in Poland. In France, they visited Themis solar laboratory and the waste-to-energy plant in Calce.
Collège Christian Bourquin opened in 2015. There are 650 pupils from 11 to 15 years old. There are special courses: an inclusive education class for students with cognitive problems and a unit of the Therapeutic Institute to allow adolescents with special needs to enter the school. The teachers team is made of more than 30 experienced professionals. Most of them have been teaching and involved in projects for over twenty years. Teachers in our school are really motivated. Organizing work at different levels of education and maintaining good relationships between children of different ages is a challenge we face every day. It is particularly interesting to prepare students to understand and apply the principles of democracy, to develop communication and networking skills, to appreciate the cultural and artistic values of World Heritage. Our teachers aim to prepare them for real life where they will be able to stand and their own civilian positions. That is why our school has fully entered the Erasmus program. Thanks to these projects, our school has created a European course for all students. It records all European experiences, the knowledge and abilities of our students in terms of citizenship, languages and culture.
