Objectives

As part of this project, we had four objectives: - Development of language skills - Development of coding and programming skills - Development of European identity among pupils. Increased practice of modern languages Discovery of new cultures - Develop responsible use of the Internet and “new” technologies We know, from our experience, that the actions carried out in class, when shared with European pupils (whether via eTwinning or during mobility) have a very strong impact on pupils. Europe still often appears to students as a distant entity whose importance they struggle to measure. Through this project, we wanted to give them the feeling of being a European child. Our desire was to show them that despite the distance, they are much closer than they think to children from other countries and cultures. For teachers, this project is also an opportunity to take a step back from their own practices in order to improve them.

Background

The Pau Casals elementary school welcomes 315 pupils divided into 13 classes including one ULIS. It is located in the first ring of Perpignan and the students come mainly from families belonging to medium to high socio-professional classes. The school has already taken part in an ERASMUS+ project (consortium with schools in England, Sweden and Spain) which included observation activities and student mobility. Several classes participate in an eTwinning project with European schools (some are partners in this project). The school is engaged in different projects involving coding and programming (also via eTwinning). Through this project, we wanted to continue our approach of opening up to Europe while developing, among students, foreign language skills as well as those of coding and programming. It appeared to us during councils of student delegates that equality between boys and girls was an area where many actions were possible in order to break the glass ceiling and try to make school a place where everyone can express themselves, grow and feel good.
