The University of Limoges (Unilim) is one of the main Higher Education Institution of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. As a multi-disciplinary university located on 8 sites in the Limousin department, it reached around 18 000 students and almost 2000 academic and administrative staff in 2022. For long Unilim has made the Erasmus program and the development of European mobility a major driving force in the internationalization of its activities, through which it intends to contribute to the creation of a unified European higher education area, and to disseminated its values and expertise. According to its Erasmus+ strategy statement for the 2021-2027 program, and by implementing its mobility projects, Unilim is mainly aiming at: - reinforcing the knowledge and employability of its graduates and increasing the quality of its training offer, - magnifying the dissemination of a multicultural and international approach within the governance and management of the establishment, in particular by further developing mobility for all its staff, - allowing the diversification and intensification exchanges between education, research and socio-economic and cultural worlds to promote excellency and regional development. More broadly, it also intends to respond to two major strategic challenges, by embracing the principles and objectives of European programs: - to reaffirm its position as a key player in the vast Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, while remaining true to its vocation as a generalist university; - to meet the new expectations placed on the French and European higher education system, in addition to the traditional missions of training and research: social and societal responsibilities, collective focus on global challenges (UN Sustainable Development Goals). The Erasmus program for 2014-2020 saw a significant increase in European student mobility in the establishment (+15%). After the downturn caused by the Covid-19 crisis, this trend was further reinforced in the first 2 years of the new program (+30%). The 2022 project therefore supports this dynamic by focusing on study mobility, with internship mobility being handled by an Erasmus+ project piloted by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, on behalf of a consortium of establishments from the former Limousin and Poitou-Charentes regions. The program also includes staff mobility, in a proportion which, although still limited, is increasing. The project involves all 11 academic components of the university: faculties of Law and Economics (FDSE), Arts and Humanities (FLSH), Science and Technology (FST), Medicine and Pharmacy, the Limousin Insitute of Technology (IUT) the University School of Management (IAE), the National Higher Institute of Teaching and Education (INSPE), the Institute of Preparation to General Administration (IPAG), the Limousin Institute of Training in Rehabilitation Professions (ILFOMER), and the Engineering School (ENSIL-ENSCI). They are all free to define their own objectives more precisely, within the framework set by the establishment’s international strategy. In fact, for the most important of these, the majority of participants are recruited from: - within the 2nd year of the engineering cycle (bac+4) at the ENSIL-ENSCI, whose students are now obliged to carry out at least one international exchange during their syllabus; - 3rd year License and Master students from the FLSH and the FDSE, with a view to gradually broadening the range of audiences and specialties concerned; - 2nd and 3rd years of the University Bachelor of Technology, or through university degrees dedicated to mobility, run by the IUT in conjunction with the IAE or the FST: University Degree in International Technology Studies, University Degree Business Management. In practice, the expected results of European mobility are numerous and go beyond simply enriching participants’ academic skills and improving their level of foreign language practice. The aim is also to help them move towards autonomy, to confront them with another culture and a different higher education system, to bring a specific coloring to their curricula that will foster their integration into the professional world and society in general. This is why the university if keen to offer this opportunity to as wide a public as possible, which is a decisive factor for its students, 60% of them coming from the Limousin region, and over 40% are on scholarship. At the same time, the internationalization of its training offer through the Program enables it to develop its hosting capacity and increase its attractiveness.
