Based on an initial project supported by the AUF, the aim was to examine methods of education for sustainable development (SD) and use them as levers to support and train local stakeholders in SD. This is understood in a unique context and requires a strong multidisciplinary approach to be understood. Based on this observation, the project aimed to: i) design SD diagnostic tools; ii) convert these tools into serious games that train students (and local stakeholders) in sustainable transitions (via beekeeping, honey resources and bees, which encapsulate the major sustainability issues of today); iii) replicate and disseminate the know-how and games. Internships in Bosnia (and France) provided localised, realistic and comprehensive material for developing the games, which were deployed and integrated into a ‘sustainability week’ (now a permanent teaching module at ISTOM) and are also being implemented by the partner. The first game focuses on awareness and cooperation. The second game, which is more complex, is based on managing a beekeeping operation in its environment. The project thus aimed to create tools that would educate about SD and therefore generate SD.
