The AfricaArch project aimed to foster the exchange of complementary expertise in the fields of archaeology, history, and the cultural heritage of prehistoric, protohistoric, and medieval Sub-Saharan Africa. As part of the institution’s 2021–2026 internationalization strategy, it constitutes the logical continuation of the multiple academic and scientific collaborations developed by the teaching and research cluster on African History and Archaeology within the UMR TRACES. Its objective was thus to provide an appropriate institutional and financial framework to rebalance, strengthen, and sustain pre-existing partnerships through the funding of student mobility—primarily incoming and directed toward underprivileged and active students—as well as teaching mobility designed for bilateral transfers of knowledge and skills. Its ambition was to enhance the quality of academic and scientific training, both for students and professionals, through extended mobilities integrated into university curricula, and through a training offer of unprecedented diversity in the fields of archaeology and history within the Sub-Saharan region.
