The Franco-Georgian KA171 consortium project, coordinated by the University of Rennes, brings together 13 higher education institutions (7 French and 6 Georgian). It builds on the long-standing experience of French institutions in academic cooperation with Georgia. This project strengthens and expands the cooperation of French HEIs, in line with the intergovernmental agreement of May 2018 establishing the Franco-Georgian University (UFG), and reflects the shared commitment of the French and Georgian governments to consolidate bilateral academic partnerships. It also addresses the strategic priorities of Georgian institutions, encouraged by their government to develop partnerships in the fields of tourism, agriculture, and engineering, in order to better align educational provision with the country’s economic needs. In support of the UFG, the KA171 project has contributed to the internationalisation of Georgian higher education by funding student and staff mobilities linked to internationally recognised double degrees. It has thus strengthened Franco-Georgian academic cooperation and supported regional development, while opening up new professional and academic opportunities for young Georgians.
