Objectives

In setting up this project, we wanted that students, their families, teachers and the educational community : - get a clearer, better-documented picture of the issues surrounding climate change - learn how to apply a scientific approach to an issue - learn to work in a group - take action in their local environment - discover or improve their knowledge of the world of research, local institutions and associations and their role in these questions and issues - improve their speaking skills, their level of English and their ability to use digital tools - open up their international perspectives and experience the benefits of cooperation between teams from different countries Our aim was to give all the pupils, even those from modest families, a chance to develop an ecological awareness and broaden their future prospects in the world of science, institutions and associations, but also to broaden their international prospects by improving their command of English and technological tools as a means of cooperating in international teams.

Background

Although the issues of environmental protection and global warming are omnipresent, our pupils in particular and all citizens in general lack precise, scientific knowledge about them. What's more, we felt that this topical theme was the perfect way to get our pupils to work on the scientific approach: searching for information, selecting, comparing, verifying, putting forward hypotheses, experimenting. Then, we wanted to give them the means to take real action on their immediate environment by taking concrete steps to improve everyday behaviour to face global warming. We wanted to strengthen the links between pupils and staff at the school and local institutions and associations working to protect the environment and combat global warming. Finally, we wanted to offer students and teachers an international cooperation project to open up their international horizons and strengthen their sense of belonging to the European community, as well as enabling them to improve their skills in teamwork, project management, the use of technological tools and English.
