Objectives

We wanted to be able to highlight the fact that the position of the social mediator, according to the European definition of 2000, must always be the same because this is how the social mediator can work professionally with different audiences and contexts and that going outside this framework puts the professional in difficulty but also does not allow to act in complementarity with other professionals to allow the autonomy and empowerment of the people in mediation. For this, we wanted filmed testimonies of social mediators in different contexts (city mediation, citizenship, migrants, interculturality, school mediation) implemented in different European countries. The objective being to have educational material that can be used in training but also in less formal learning sequences such as team exchange times (briefing, debriefing or practice analysis).

Background

We needed a training support that would highlight the expected posture of the social mediator. The most effective pedagogically is the testimony of mediation professionals. We therefore wanted to film contextualized mediation cases in different countries. Interviews with mediators in 5 countries were therefore conducted, according to a framework defined in a group, then we built educational tools (video analysis grid according to the learners - beginners or experienced -, evaluation questionnaire and glossary).
