Objectives

Faced with the current context of rising extremes, wars near and far, and global warming, we wanted to defend European humanist values, and show our pupils that in Europe, openness to others and solidarity are absolutely essential, and that reconnecting with nature is a guarantee of our humanity. Based on the Bauhaus and on the European New Bauhaus, which updates its values, our project promoted democratic values and aimed to build an inclusive, supportive and civic-minded Europe. Our ambition was to raise awareness of the Bauhaus as part of Europe's cultural heritage, to understand how it has been transformed in today's world and to collectively reinvent new ways of living, building, creating, understanding urban planning and architecture, and learning in Europe. We wanted our students to experience creativity as an opportunity to work together to shape the Europe of tomorrow. We wanted to engage students in a creative process of co-construction to shape the future and give substance to these values. We also wanted to develop an innovative pedagogical approach and promote the school outside the classroom.

Background

Our pupils sometimes have an abstract vision of Europe, so we wanted to show them that Europe is a tangible reality through a European cooperative project, meetings with partners and concrete achievements. We thought that involving pupils in the creation of spaces that they design themselves would improve this feeling of well-being, but we also thought that pupils suffer from their learning environment, and that outdoor classroom teaching seemed to us to respond to this crucial issue. The lack of knowledge and interest among pupils and the general public about the existence of new sustainable architectures, despite the fact that they have a major impact on the economy, the climate and people's daily lives, made it absolutely essential to try to ensure that all those involved in the project were aware of the importance of implementing these architectures and sustainable urban planning programmes. The project was an opportunity to experiment with solutions to improve their living environment and to think more broadly about new ways of living.
