Objectives

The GAMEDUCATE project aimed to gain a deep understanding of the needs and gaps in innovative teaching methods and digital technologies in partner countries by conducting a comprehensive analysis of national curricula, including desk research and field surveys, in collaboration with teachers, school leaders, and Ministries of Education. It also aimed to strengthen the professional development of teachers and school leaders by providing them with a modular and innovative curriculum, adapted to virtual, hybrid, and in-person contexts, in order to enhance their teaching skills. The project aimed to create an adaptable curriculum, consisting of nine modules, based on local curricula and easily transferable to other educational contexts, sectors, and countries, incorporating innovative approaches such as gamification and digital tools. Furthermore, GAMEDUCATE aimed to provide a comprehensive digital toolkit via an online platform that includes the modules, technological tools, and multimedia resources to enhance teachers' digital skills and integrate technology into teaching.

Background

The GAMEDUCATE project addresses the needs identified in European education systems, where, despite recommendations to encourage innovation and creativity, curricula often remain overloaded and not conducive to innovative learning approaches. Although teachers recognize the importance of creative learning activities, the majority of schools in the EU still prioritize traditional, teacher-centered methods. A 2018 study by PPMI for the European Commission confirmed the need to make education systems more dynamic and flexible, emphasizing the importance of the "how" of learning. GAMEDUCATE was developed to address these gaps by providing a curriculum and teaching tools that enhance teachers' skills and promote practices focused on creativity and innovation. By integrating innovative methods and technologies, GAMEDUCATE helps teachers adapt current curricula. This project also aims to strengthen their digital skills, contributing to the goals of the National Tomorrow Plan (2021-2026) and the EU Digital Education Plan (2021-2027).
