Objectives

The main aim of the project was to explore the intersections between digital technologies (software & hardware) and creativity, focusing on music teaching and training, and to create a new language that drew on the creative and expressive nature of digital approaches to the arts. This would lead to the creation of innovative methodologies for music training and the development of tools and materials to improve the skills of musicians, music trainers and students in the specific application of digital technology to musical performance, in order to enhance training and learning potential and, at the same time, form an innovative vision linked to critical thinking and digital aesthetics to create a more effective and aware performer.

Background

We have applied for this project in order to help teachers and students take full advantage of digital technology in professional music education, with a particular focus on the specific needs of classical music education, both in initial professional training and in the professional development of musicians. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic emergency, it has become apparent that the music education sector lacks the necessary know-how for proper digitalisation, i.e. the use of digital technology in practical training, which is at the heart of music education. The Metamorphoses project therefore responds to the needs of music schools and music ensembles that wish to use digital technology to improve their practices, including the use of virtual environments that can open up new possibilities for VET and also for music performance. In fact, there is now a variety of freely available technological resources that, with the right methodology, can be used by many musicians, teachers and learners in Europe.
