Awareness about the European UnionEuropean identity and values

Objectives

This project was carried out following a seminar organized by the Ready To Move platform, Erasmus funding, in October 2021, in Fossoy in Aisne. The young people of our associations – those who participated in the project, live in a rural environment, with limited public transport lines, with a distance from the offer of training and study opportunities, a distance from employment and the discovery of cultural practices. The participants in this project were teenagers who have nothing or little compared to the average youth. With this project, we have enabled some young people to leave their area of daily life, their department or their region of residence for the first time, and even sometimes to leave their country of origin for the first time. We wanted to try to give them, to transmit to them certain notions of citizenship: - respect for the dignity of human beings among themselves - living together in an educational way. - concept of cooperation - concept of cultural diversity and secularism - knowledge and experience to be in a structured and supportive community... For this project, our first objective was that each young person could build a European identity. One of our goals was to get back to the heart of the fundamentals. To do this, we have made it a point of honor to understand how to create your own cultural identity to better understand it and better understand that of others. We wanted to put young people into reflection, to measure that even if they come from different countries (Italy, Cyprus, Portugal and France), with different cultures, different identities and lifestyles, different social and geographical origins, it was possible to find common points, common goals and that together they could build and share new things, live moments of common life, create common experiences and memories, and even find a common identity . The theme of our project was “European identity”. Through this theme, we wanted participants to discover the values of Europe and its symbols. Our second objective was for young people to improve their participation. We achieved this goal by using active methods, i.e. by inviting young people to do, participate and give their opinion. Work in small groups, positions and words were observed during the project. Many times the participants were asked to actively participate in the projects. They reflected, debated, chose some of their activities, some topics for debate... Our third objective was to contribute to the development of autonomy through the formidable lever of cooperation. This objective was also achieved with many moments that were set up by the management team so that the participants were in a situation of autonomy and cooperation (games, working time, cooking time, living time daily…). All of our actions, our wishes, our objectives have been achieved. To succeed, we used so-called “non-formal” methods, i.e. games, role-playing, debates, etc.
