We all know ecological transition is a must, an urgent challenge that societies can not turn a blind eye to. Despite being vastly proved and acknowledged, this challenge can feel just too big, too overwhelming for us as individuals. It is, indeed, a global-scale problem that has to be tackled with solutions that go beyond personal grasp and transcend national frontiers. But that doesn’t spare us from a little share of responsibility. This chink of agency is what motivated us to create “The Green Ride Forward”, proposing a programme based on three wheels, in which acting is possible: conscious consumption, sustainable transport and waste-free environment. In these interconnected areas, we wanted youngsters to reflect and learn how to strive for greener lifestyles and sustainable cities through non-formal activities. The program of workshops, visits, debates and games, all within Annecy and its ecological transition, aims to be a live demonstration of the impact citizens can have and to help participants turn messages into action, both during their stay and eventually back home. Our 6-day programme focused on eco-citizenship through a scope that includes the next values and standpoints: ·Learning, sharing, acting. A hands-on activity programme, with on the ground visits to ecological projects and spaces for dialogue, creative workshops and games. ·Active hope over resigned despair. Climate change is a worryingly tangible horizon and eco-anxiety is a very real emotion among our generation. But we should turn that concern into active citizenship for more sustainable (and thus, liveable) communities. -Changes within citizens’ reach. Aside from global and wide-scale action, we discuss how the ecological emergency can be tackled at an individual and community level. -Learning-by-doing approach. Practice besides theory and connection to other fields like arts, sports and cooking. -Annecy, a perfect live lab. Unbeatable alpine scenery, where lake, mountains and city draw a beautiful yet fragile equilibrium. We discuss current public policies and infrastructures as well as valuing private initiatives. However, the exchange does not only improve climate change awareness. Participants develop a better understanding and knowledge of other cultures, and people with diverse backgrounds. Moreover, it fosters an increased acquisition of foreign language skills in English and French, together with long-term positive development of motivation to learn languages and participate in European mobility programs. During the online activities before and after the exchange, participants increase their virtual skills by using different online tools. Participants are in charge of the management and content creation for social media. Guided evaluations and self-assessment take place everyday during the exchange, strengthened by the youthpass tool, which provides the participants insight and agency in their own learning outcomes and eagerness to learn. General objectives: -Raise awareness about climate change among all participants, using methods of non-formal education to make a change in our own daily lives and our communities. -Give a sense of agency by discovering good practices by local actors related to consumption, mobility and environmental cleanness. -Create a network of multipliers with fresh perspectives and motivation to become more involved and to critically think of initiatives to implement in their own local communities. -Convey the learnings on sustainability to citizens from the different countries involved, to eventually lead to change on a larger scale. -Facilitate a safe space for participants to reflect, express themselves and create art through sustainable practices. -Build an open and tolerant intercultural environment where we can discover Europe’s rich diversity. Practical objectives: -Weight the environmental effects of our lifestyle and learning concrete skills on how to reduce our footprint while taking care of ourselves. -Integrate the use of sustainable mobility in our own lifestyle and reflect on green urban transportation models. -Experiencing activism for cleaner surroundings and incorporating key environmental policies against pollution.
