Objectives

The aim of the training course "Employability in Europe: Digital for Ecology and Youth Inclusion" was to give youth workers the opportunity to enrich and improve their skills in supporting young people, especially those who face more difficulties in developing their employability. Indeed, this year's project was particularly aimed at helping young people with disabilities and those living in rural areas. The aim was to promote non-formal learning, so the trainers conducted their workshop using non-conventional teaching methods. Through these methods, the young people acquired useful skills for the labour market, such as the ability to work in a team, self-confidence, initiative and perseverance. The training courses were all developed with this in mind by the youth workers. And in parallel to the workshops, these skills were put into practice in a joint project developed by the young people in four groups. Each project aimed to address the ecological situation in the region by proposing "greener" solutions to businesses, through the digital transition. The projects developed were presented to a jury composed of the following entities Câmara Municipal de Ourém, Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, CCDR-C (Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Centro), CCDR-LVT (Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional de Lisboa e Vale do Tejo), ADIRN (Associação para o Desenvolvimento Integrado do Ribatejo Norte), Pinhal Maior and TAGUS. The winning project was chosen for the ease with which it can be implemented in the region. This year's event had the particularity of taking place on the occasion of the National Diaspora Meeting (PNAID), a governmental initiative of the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities and the Secretary of State for the Valorisation of the Interior, during which the young people had access to workshops developed by entrepreneurs from the region and other Portuguese entrepreneurs who have their businesses in several countries. The young people had a real chance to meet the entrepreneurs and develop contacts and a network for the future. The aim was to apply the results of the training, to continue them in a concrete way and to multiply the impact of the meeting at different levels: at the local level, thanks to the common project; at the national level, thanks to the impact of the training on the participants from different countries; at the European level, thanks to the international Portuguese-speaking network formed during the event What the young workers present, and therefore probably some of the young people they worked with, had in common was their command of the Portuguese language. Thus, the workshops also aimed to to promote Portuguese as a professional asset, often neglected by young Portuguese speakers, and more broadly to promote bilingualism and multiculturalism. Through the Encounter, we also sought to pursue and expand an international and sustainable network of Portuguese-speaking youth workers, young entrepreneurs and practitioners in order to learn from the different approaches to youth work in each of the participating countries and to have new opportunities for jobs, internships and even work placements in other European countries. The idea is to continue working on this network in the coming years and to address together the different dimensions of youth work. The themes of the training were employability, ecology and inclusion, and these three axes were well reflected in the topics discussed. Among the people who met our selection criteria (i.e. working with young people and having at least a B2 level in Portuguese), we welcomed a person with cognitive limitations who, well accompanied by the organisation and the other participants, was able to integrate and follow the rhythm of the meeting, which is a success of the project.
