The Power in Youth – Summit – took place over 5 days from the 29th of June to 3rd of July 2022 and had 153 international youth between 15-30 come together to reconcile after the hardships of COVID19 and the major challenges pressing down on them today. The aspiration was to create a safe space for learning and community, while addressing how the youth could tap into their power to live and act in the world today. AYUDH Europe wanted to implement a project organised by, with and for European youth. All our efforts and actions were directed to respond to the needs of youth, addressing the environmental, social, political and mental health challenges they might face in our current society. The project aimed to provide a unique platform to develop personal and collective responsibilities, capacity development and youth leadership, social, environmental and global awareness. This was achieved through intercultural dialogue, personal development and creative expression through a combination of local civic engagement activities, workshops and debates. Previous to the project, we had run surveys among our participants and held numerous meetings (in presence and virtual) to identify everyone’s vision and needs. This allowed us to identify the six main objectives which were responding directly to the necessities of participating organisations as well as the young people targeted by the activities. They directly address European Youth Goal (YG) 10: Sustainable Green Europe, as well as YG3 : Inclusive Societies, YG5 : Mental Health and Wellbeing and YG9 : Space and Participation for All. 1.Empower youth to expand an international community for changemakers, actively participating to shape society and policies in the interest of young people 2.Connecting Young people with sustainable and green practises 3.Foster values of human inclusion, cooperation and solidarity in youth 4.Expanding capacities for fostering better mental well being 5.Build a project based on non-formal and informal learning 6.Internal organisational capacity building Firstly, this project aimed to uplift, enable and empower young people in order to create a strong community of responsible citizens capable of effecting change on multiple levels. We had identified a real need for young European citizens to get better equipped with competences, experiences and skills which would allow them to impact positively on their communities and society as a whole. Secondly, this project aimed to raise awareness on sustainable and green practices. We had identified a strong need for youth to take their stand in the fight against climate change. Therefore, this project aimed to provide knowledge and tools youth can then use to make their voice heard and take relevant actions for a green and sustainable Europe. The third objective was to actively encourage inclusion, cooperation and solidarity for a more united Europe including the needs and rights of most marginalised and excluded groups. We had identified a strong need for youth to connect, especially after two years of the Covid pandemic. We also identified a need to include young people that face adverse geographical, social or financial situations and facilitate their access to such projects. In this time of challenges posed by climate change, financial instability, global pandemics and cultural clashes, a significant and increasing number of young people across Europe are facing various mental health issues. An important objective of our project, which constituted the common groundwork of all our programs, was to support young people to develop a confident, healthy, balanced and confident mindset in order to increase their well-being. Additionally, our purpose was to build a project based on non-formal and informal learning to allow high quality learning outcomes to our participants. Our project was specifically designed to boost the youth’s skill-set through a variety of workshops, skill labs and a hands-on activity led jointly by experts and peer youth. Finally, this project was a significant way for AYUDH Europe to strengthen the organisational capacity of the partners’ youth organisations and informal youth groups. The objective was to rebuild the AYUDH youth network in Europe by providing opportunities for involvement and participation in all aspects of the project.
