The objectives of this project were as follows: 1) Contribute to the development of European citizenship, create political and ecological awareness One of ACCOORD's challenges is to raise the awareness of the people we work with about the major issues facing our society daily: food and health, equality and community life, solidarity, digital technology and the ecological transition. Above all, we want to raise awareness of the importance of being an active European citizen. For the younger generations to grasp this importance, they need to experience what Europe is all about. Through Discover EU mobility, we wanted to give them the opportunity to act on issues that matter to them in another European country, to understand just how global the issues that affect us all are. Taking part in the great project that is Europe should enable them to realise the importance of voting, taking part in democratic life and getting involved in major issues such as the environment and peace. Organising a trip that respects the environment, by choosing environmentally friendly or ‘green’ means of transport, activities and accommodation, should also help to raise awareness. 2) Develop and enhance young people's cross-disciplinary skills Working with 12,000 families in Nantes daily, ACCOORD helps to develop young people's skills in an informal setting through games, workshops, sports and outdoor activities, voluntary work and holidays. 80% of the young people we work with live in one of our priority neighbourhoods, and 40% come from families with the lowest Family Quotient (FQ 1/2/3). These young people rarely, if ever, have the opportunity to travel abroad as part of their family or school life, or to experience things that would enable them to develop skills such as knowing how to fend for themselves, being more tolerant and more responsible, to facilitate their social and professional integration. The young people who took part in the Discover EU mobility projects all needed to acquire or develop these skills through an experience of European openness, through a project of their own making.
