The fist goal was to connect tolerance, interculturality and concern for our cultural heritage. The stated goal is connected with the need to communicate successfully in the contemporary European environment, which includes migrations and contacts between different cultures in Europe. Simultaneously, we have highlighted the need to cherish local cultural heritage of the Turopolje region and valorize it in the context of wider cultural heritage of Europe. We have developed tolerance among our students in terms of communication and social acceptance of students in individualized educational programs and accepting immigrants in our local area. Acquisition of methodical skills and implementation of innovative approaches to learning was the second goal of our project. We have educated our teaching staff on innovative approaches to teaching and learning, which include field school, project-based learning, experiential learning and cooperative learning. In these ways we wanted to strengthen cooperation among our students and advance their social skills. With an active action plan we wanted to encourage our students and teachers to work on connecting our school and local community through volunteering, donating, recycling and upcycling.
Velika Gorica Grammar School offers general and natural science and mathematics curriculum. 450 students attend the school in 18 classes. According to our curriculum, we are working on projects which include all teaching staff and involve parents with the purpose of creating a positive environment in which every individual is given the opportunity to satisfy their social, biological and self-actualizing needs within their abilities. Our extracurricular activities enable students to develop their own individuality and social efficiency. Additional classes enable our students to develop skills and work on research methods in order to reach a higher level of content comprehension. By organizing cultural activities at our school, we are following important cultural events on the local and European level. We are also active participants in EU projects: Erasmus+ KA1 (2014), Erasmus KA1 (2018), Erasmus+ KA2 (2017/2019), Erasmus KA1 (2019/2020). Peer observation within our institution with the purpose of enhancing the quality of the educational process, eTwinning projects, School of the future project and EU Ambasadors group, active at our school, all contribute to the continuous professional development of our teaching staff.
