Although we have been making progress for years, we believe that we can and should do better. Our basic intention and goal in implementing the project is to achieve the adoption of healthy habits by many of our students, which is a very demanding task. We are aware that changes do not come overnight, but with every small health change that students apply in their lives. For this reason, we wanted to achieve several smaller goals with the project: strengthening the competence of teachers in designing and implementing programs and projects aimed at creating healthy lifestyle habits, creating a healthy education program that will be implemented every school year, and will include better utilization of existing school resources (garden, kitchen ...), human potential and better monitoring of results, an increased number of hours of regular classes in all subjects, subjects in which healthy lifestyle habits are taught, and finally, changing student habits: a greater number of students who play a sport, a greater number of students who they choose to eat a healthy meal in in the school kitchen. This is evidenced by the curriculum we are already implementing.
Ivan Mažuranić Primary School in Vinkovci for many years has been developing awareness of the need to educate students about a healthy lifestyle (nutrition, movement, prevention of addictive behavior, emotional and social development, mental health, etc.). This is evidenced by the fact that a few years ago we started implementing various activities in the school (whether it is regular classes or extracurricular activities) with which we try to influence the change in students' habits, and at the same time on the habits they carry in their families. Through surveys (starting with the school's self-evaluation process back in 2012), we have repeatedly determined that most of our students do not have a proper diet, and this primarily refers to the consumption of various food products, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (stated explicitly in the project application). A small part of the students practice some sport, but this is not enough for us to be satisfied with the overall data. We concluded as a collective of teachers that most of our students do not have sufficient knowledge about healthy living and lifestyle habits.
