The project had three specific goals: a) Teachers/parents made informed decisions and carried out activities to increase the therapeutic and recreational effects of music. b) Teachers understood and utilized rhythm and music for the development of mathematical skills. c) Acquisition of practical skills in connecting mathematics and music for improvement and assistance to students in better understanding and adopting mathematical knowledge. The following can be considered general objectives set in the project: Motivation and optimism among School staff increased due to the adoption of new knowledge/skills/attitudes and positive enhancement of self-esteem in learning mobility. School staff became aware of their role as positive role models in intergenerational relationships.
Our teachers needed encouragement to achieve and enhance the quality of education through personal development (knowledge, skills, attitudes), and communication. The responsibility of the teachers was to provide students with the best learning experience and actively involve them in the learning process. Through reading literature, we came across information that the use of music and musical instruments helps in the acquisition of mathematical knowledge. In our school, we had a music therapist and several teachers who taught mathematics classes, so we concluded that we had resources in people, but we needed knowledge and experience to connect the two disciplines: mathematics and music. As such practices were not present in Croatia, we believed that, by designing learning activities for teachers through an international project, we would ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills for using musical methods in mathematics education.
