We wanted to show students a different way of learning, provide them with a new life experience, and give them the opportunity to become teachers for their classmates. The goal was to improve the professional knowledge and skills of the participants as well as other students in the school. Mobility participants work independently with the new diagnostic equipment in the school and mentor their colleagues, which raises the quality of teaching to a higher level. Students are more relaxed and more inclined to try out their skills on new equipment when there is a student with them - a student of mobility, and not necessarily a teacher. We wanted to instruct the teacher who was on the job shadowing activity in different methods of working and using laboratory equipment and apparatus in order to supervise the process of collegial learning. We wanted to provide teachers with an education in which they would actively participate and transfer the acquired knowledge to students at school, but also to teachers within the profession throughout the Republic of Croatia. We wanted a better implementation of teaching in the school laboratory.
In February 2022, the Bjelovar Medical School applied for the project "I learn from others - I share knowledge with others..." which was approved and implemented from November 1, 2022. until 31.10.2023. In the project, 7 students in the profession of health-laboratory technician (with 1 teacher accompanying them) participated in the activity of short-term mobility of students in vocational education and training for the purpose of learning, and one vocational teacher in the activity of monitoring work. The main goal of the project was to enable its students and professional teachers to improve their professional knowledge and skills in the field of laboratory diagnostics, and to involve teachers in Erasmus projects with the aim of improving the quality of the school. Given that the school has the status of a Regional Center of Competence in Healthcare, from the 2023/24 school year it is equipped with new laboratory equipment that the students and the teacher got to know and used during the mobility and were trained to work with it. Mobility participants will transfer their new knowledge and skills to all other students and teachers, and in this way regular classes will be of higher quality and more interesting.
