Objectives

In the heart of Europe, where environmental and climate protection tops the EU's agenda, a compelling notion echoes: "We are the last generation that can still do something on time." (AMPEU). This statement was the driving force behind the Erasmus+ project "Green is My Colour - Green Business for Youngsters in Rural Areas," conceptualized and initiated by Association 4 elements in Dvor, a small town by the Una River in Croatia. Dvor, with its rich biodiversity of River Una and Zrinska Gora, the looming prospect of becoming a protected Park of Nature, is not without its challenges. The impending disposal of nuclear waste from NE Krško and the town's aging population, primarily dependent on agriculture, highlight pressing concerns. Consequently, two predominant issues were identified: 1. The evident absence of education concerning green business possibilities and the importance of safeguarding the environment. 2. The urgent need to equip rural youth with the skills and knowledge to explore green and sustainable business avenues beyond traditional farming. Addressing these concerns, the Association 4 elements, along with young initiators from Dvor, collaborated with international partners from Cyprus (CCIF Cyprus), Romania (Uzinaduzina), and Italy (Petir Pas). Each brought their unique expertise, from sustainable tourism to education and environment, converging on the shared aim: to exchange experiences on green business, sustainable tourism, and agritourism while emphasizing sustainability and environmental protection. Outlined objectives were: 1. A joint exploration of green business concepts. 2. Unravelling opportunities in rural places focusing on environmental protection and green entrepreneurship. Aligning with the Erasmus+ programme's objectives, this project set out to address "Sustainable Green Europe," "Moving Rural Youth Forward," and "Quality Employment for All." Emphasis was placed on promoting non-formal and informal learning, fostering active youth participation, and ensuring the inclusion of 23 youngsters with fewer opportunities. The project's structure was deeply rooted in sustainability. Green transportation, organic food from family farms, outdoor activities, and the use of reusable materials underscored its commitment to a sustainable attitude. Participants were set to benefit through enhanced knowledge in green business, digital competences, and language skills. In essence, the "Green is My Colour" project is a testament to the power of collaboration, offering rural youth a platform to champion environmental protection and explore green entrepreneurial ventures, collaborate with youngsters from urban cities and have reversal impact on both profile of youngsters. Through this initiative, the hope is not just to empower the youth but to inspire communities to forsee a sustainable future.
