Objectives

The goals of the project were: 1. Learn more about different types of influencers on social media. Participants learned who the influencers are,and the goal is for young people was to identify people they see as role models and describe the reasons for their own choices. Emphasis was on finding people who have been role models in the past, such as various athletes, scientists, human rights activists… Participants compared the similarities and differences between role models and influencers and critically consider and describe the positive and negative aspects of influencers. This encouraged young people to choose positive role models and to be positive role models themselves. During the workshops, participants listed and described their own characteristics that can make them role models for others, which contributes to the development of a positive self-image and increase self-awareness and self esteem of adolescents. The aim of this project was to encourage young people to choose positive role models and critically consider the messages that influencers promote on their social networks. 2. Improve their knowledge and understanding of the pros and cons of using social media on the mental health of young people During the workshops, participants became aware of their motives and the needs for which they most often use social networks. They were able to recognize and describe potentially problematic motives for using social networks and recognize screen fatigue through noticing physical and emotional symptoms. Through workshops, they compared the quality of relationships with friends live and in a virtual environment and identifyed the risks and dangers posed by virtual relationships. 3. Learn how to use social media responsibly. They learned to set their own limits according to the uncritical consumption of virtual content, the time spent online, and to distinguish reliable sources of information. They discussed the impact of social media on the spread of fake news in the context of the pandemic and the development of conspiracy theories related to Covid. They studyed the algorithms of functioning of social networks by which we are exposed to a certain type of information. Participants devised certain ways to protect themselves in a virtual environment and minimize potential negative consequences. As a result of the activities carried out during the youth exchange, an example of an influencer profile promoting youth participation programs in Erasmus + programs was created and the same profile is used to disseminate project results. 4. Strengthen the capacity of partners to participate in international non-formal learning projects. The partners expanded their cooperation networks and strengthen the competencies of their employees to participate in international and non-formal learning projects. This is especially important because the project involved partners from Georgia and Turkey who deal with young people from marginalized communities and have few opportunities to participate in international projects, and also as members of minorities (refugees in Georgia) are potentially at risk of abuse through social media. All workshops that were conducted on the project were designed and conducted by students and this helped them gain new skills and develop self-confidence in their own abilities. They are able to apply the acquired skills in activities in their schools and organizations.
