Objectives

Objectives of this project were: • to understand the context of Islamophobia better: history of “east-west” relations, roots of anti-Muslim sentiment and current situation in Europe • to support the development of competences of participants highly needed to understand and to be able to use advocacy in their work • to empower participants to be able to support young people effectively in their engagement in advocacy activities with the aim of combating Islamophobia • to raise the awareness about role of youth work and non-formal education in combating Islamophobia • to reflect on the importance of intercultural dialogue and active participation in preventing youth radicalization • to ensure sustainability of the NoHateMakers network through networking and development of new projects within the frame of Erasmus+ program By implementing this project, we wanted to achieve following: - To give a contribution to combating and reducing Islamophobia - To point out and promote advocacy as simple and effective tool for youth organizations to involve and support young people in combating islamophobia - To provide professional training and bust capacities of partner organizations in their mission to contribute to reducing Islamophobia - Raise the awareness of online communities about Islamophobia by producing and sharing project outputs - Make NoHateMakers network stronger and bigger This project has been developed on the need of equipping more people who can support young people in their local communities to challenge Islamophobia and to make specific actions against it while applying non-violent, human rights friendly approach. Through this training we contributed to training of 32 youth workers from 8 countries who are not taking actions through their daily work and in that way, we are all giving contribution to challenging and reducing islamophobia. During the project, participants were led through each step of creating advocacy activity and they realised that it is very easy and fun way. They also said later that young people in their organizations like it since it leaves a lot of space for creativity and actual activity/campaign can have different shape every time although same steps are being followed. This project and especially its training was important for all organizations and youth workers involved since all of the identified Islamophobia as growing problem and wanted to develop their capacities to tackle it and act against it. Each organization now has 4 trained youth workers who can implement gained knowledge and competences in daily work. This also means quality support for young people who want to be involved and who need support in developing and implementing activities which will raise the awareness about Islamophobia and do something to reduce it. During and after the project visibility and dissemination were done online where outputs and results were presented and in that way we managed to reach young people online (and everyone else). Videos, memes and other things which were produced as result of groups work during the training had a clear message – as planned and wanted, we managed to raise the awareness about growing issue of islamophobia and send a clear message that we are against it. Finally, with this project we also made NoHateMakers network stronger by enhancing its capacities to act against human rights violations and to advocate for more acceptance and peace in Europe.
